Simulator Training

Simulator Training – Provided by Solid Ground Aviation

SG-1 Basic Aviation Training Device (BATD):

Standard rate: $55/hour
FMFA Member Certificated Pilot discounted rate: $45/hour

The Fort Meade Flight Activity (FMFA) has a close relationship with Solid Ground Aviation (SGA) which provides simulator-based flight training for pilots of all experience levels. Simulator-based training has been shown to be a valuable adjunct to in-aircraft training prior to, during and after in-aircraft training. The state-of-the-art SG-1 BATD has highly realistic models of each of the aircraft in our fleet and is available for use by FMFA member students and certificated pilots. Our instructor pilots are trained in the use of the simulator making access to training easy and maximizing the benefits. Members can receive a simulator checkout and gain 24/7 access on their own.

Benefits of Simulator Training at Solid Ground Aviation

Private Pilot Students: The simulator is a fantastic way to supplement your training in the aircraft. You can learn how to better operate the avionics (Garmin 430 GPS, VOR navigation, etc.), execute emergency procedures in a safe environment, traffic patterns, radio calls, and much more. The simulator is especially useful for maintaining your training momentum during periods of bad weather, maintenance delays, airspace restrictions, etc.

Instrument Rating Students: Instrument training in the simulator is particularly valuable and the FAA allows you to log up to 10-hours toward your rating in the BATD. The avionics in the simulator are nearly identical to those in our aircraft so you will receive a high quality training experience.

Certificated Pilots: SGA offers a wide variety of proficiency training as well as 24/7 solo use of the simulator for personal training. All of SGA’s proficiency courses are eligible for WINGS credit. Instrument rated members can log instrument currency in the BATD with a panel that is nearly identical to that in the aircraft they fly at FMFA (including the Piper Arrow).

You can learn more about what SGA has to offer at the website www.flysolidground.com To see and learn more about using the simulator, please contact SGA at info@flysolidground.com to make an appointment or fill out the form on the website.
